Ambassadors

A few brave souls fell in love with the idea of quenching Jesus’ thirst and took our model of “Finding Calcutta” to their own neighborhoods. They served as Missionaries or Ambassadors for Project Finding Calcutta by starting new seasonal chapters across the country. They collaborated with local Churches, Schools, and Service Organizations to create volunteer opportunities for their peers.

Thank you friends! Project Finding Calcutta is grateful for your efforts in spreading God’s love. You know what it means to serve the poorest of the poor. God bless you and your neighbors.

MAGDALENE O’BRIEN (Missionary)

“Our prayer gives us the faith we need to be able to love. If you love, you will be willing to serve. And you will find Jesus in the distressing disguise of the poor.”  Mother Teresa

I was able to put into words what the Lord has been fostering in my heart over the last few years – He has given me a home with Himself in the poor and in the Eucharist. I am eternally grateful for this gift, and he has continued to bless me by graciously giving me the opportunity to accompany others in fostering this culture of encounter by launching a Project Finding Calcutta chapter in Nebraska in 2024. What I love about this mission is that it is so simple. It is something we can all do.

SANTIAGO SAENZ (Ambassador)

I started volunteering with Project Finding Calcutta in 2023 and when I moved to Austin I did not want to stop the habit of serving the poor. With some support I was able to start the Austin chapter with my sister and friends.

AUSTIN CHAPTER

ISABEL GAHAN (Ambassador)

I have been volunteering with Project Finding Calcutta for a few years, but as I’m a nurse, my schedule did not allow me to attend the weekend service opportunities. However, I was able to start a small operation with friends and family to serve the homeless. It’s been a wonderful human experience to assist the homeless have access to showers, give them new clothes, and to break bread with them.

I wanted to do service with my children in Kansas City. After learning more about how to invite a few families and volunteer locally, we just went for it one summer. And another. There is a Calcutta in Kansas City too.

KANSAS CITY CHAPTER

GRACE WHITE (Ambassador)

One summer I had the intense desire to serve and felt the urgency for people to be loved. I traveled to Ohio to do a Summer of Service with Christ in the City and was brought into a new place of Christ’s Heart….. Being deeply moved by encountering the poor on this mission trip, I wanted to move to Colorado and do a year of service. Yet, that was not what I was called to do. The realization came: there are people to love right here in Dallas; I don’t need to travel far to find people that need to be loved. As St. Mother Teresa stated clearly, “Love begins at home.” Further, she also urged us to: “Find your own Calcutta. Find the sick, the suffering and the lonely right there where you are.” Ultimately, I was filled with peace and excitement with the decision to stay in Dallas and join the mission already taking place here with Project Finding Calcutta. A few months later I gathered a group of friends to visit the homeless every week after work.

I serve the homeless at the Dallas City Hall every Sunday afternoon. Would you like to join me?

I went to India on a Spring Break mission trip and I wanted to do something beautiful for God when I came back. So, with my friends from college, we started visiting the elderly every week.

My friend Grace introduced me to Project Finding Calcutta and asked if we can meet at my house before going out to serve the poor. I learnt a lot about the poor and how to encounter Christ in the poor from our weekly visits to the downtown. I had the pleasure of co-leading groups of young adults to embrace the least of His brethren.
