What is Project Finding Calcutta?

  • A movement to encounter Christ in the poor through service, prayer, and community.

  • Inspired by the “life” of Mother Teresa and the “works” of the Missionaries of Charity.

Program Structure

1. Formation & Training (Weeks 1-2)

Classes on Spirituality & Mission

  • Catholic Social Teaching & St. Teresa of Calcutta’s Charism

  • Prayer & Discernment: Living a Life of Mission

  • The Theology of the Poor & Evangelization

  • Practical Skills: Fundraising, Non-Profit Management, and Leadership

Daily Life

  • Morning prayer and Mass

  • Community life with fellow interns

  • Hands-on service in local outreach projects

2. Local Service with Project Finding Calcutta (Weeks 3-6)

Serving with the Missionaries of Charity in Dallas

  • Assist in caring for the homeless, the sick, and the marginalized.

  • Participate in daily service projects and community outreach.

Supporting PFC Service Day Projects

  • Help organize and lead outreach events for local communities.

  • Work directly with volunteers and the Missionaries of Charity.

Mentoring at the PFC Summer Camp (Ages 10-18)

  • Serve as a mentor and leader for youth engaging in mission-oriented formation.

  • Guide service activities, faith discussions, and leadership development.

3. Mission Trip to Calcutta (Week 7)

Immersive Service Experience

  • Work alongside the Missionaries of Charity, caring for the sick, abandoned, and dying.

  • Live in simplicity, prayer, and service.

  • Encounter Christ in radical poverty.

Personal & Spiritual Transformation

  • Live out the works of mercy firsthand.

  • Strengthen faith through experiencing love in suffering.

4. Spiritual Direction & Personal Growth

  • One-on-one spiritual direction to help discern God’s calling.

  • Faith-sharing groups for reflection, support, and accountability.

  • Mentorship from experienced missionaries to guide and encourage spiritual growth.

5. Practical Non-Profit Experience

  • Learn how mission organizations operate:

    • Budgeting, fundraising, donor relations

    • Leadership & strategic planning

  • Fundraising Training:

    • How to raise support for your mission

    • Practical steps to engage donors and partners

6. Housing & Community Life

  • Live with host families who provide housing and support.

  • Experience a welcoming community that fosters spiritual and personal growth.

  • Develop deep friendships with fellow interns, sharing mission and faith.

7. Return & Ongoing Mission

  • Share your experience by speaking at schools, parishes, and communities.

  • Continue local service by engaging with the poor in your own community.

  • Discern next steps in your missionary calling, with potential long-term opportunities.
